Did you know that less than 1 percent of all lawyers are registered to practice before the United States Patent Office? Why limit your choice of a patent lawyer even further by focusing on the tiny handful of patent lawyers that happen to be within driving distance of you?  As you might imagine, it is extremely unlikely that the best talent at the lowest cost just happens to be in your "backyard".   Learn more valuable insights and an innovator’s critical first steps, in our Founder’s Welcome letter at the end of this start-ups offer page, or by clicking this icon:

We strive for near perfect client service and top quality patent work, and take each (no matter how small) client's case very seriously. We do appreciate you trusting us with your patent work and protecting your innovation(s).

One distinguishing aspect of our firm is that many years ago we opened an office next to the US Patent Office (USPTO) in Washington DC, which enabled us to use the USPTO's much more powerful search system and to exclusively hire former Expert Patent Examiners to conduct our patent searches. As discussed more fully in our informative article on the researching/patenting process, that is the best quality search you can find anywhere because the USPTO's EAST system is the absolutely best, which (no surprise) is what Patent Examiners use to find the prior-art they will base any rejection of your patent upon.  Patent law firms not located next to the USPTO have to search online (like you can for free), which is well known to be very poor/inefficient, and almost never finds the true closest prior art that the USPTO Examiners will certainly find and cite against you.  Also, because we have an office located next to the USPTO, we also have the advantage of being able to meet face-to-face with the Patent Examiner during examination of your patent, which has far greater success than an impersonal phone conference call that patent law firms outside Wash. D.C. must settle for.

$249 for Full Patent Search/Assessment- Package Offer (Normally $2,000)

More Details on the Offer:

ONLY MICRO/SMALL ENTITIES (MICRO INDIVIDUALS, START-UPS, OR SMALL BUSINESSES with < 15 employees) on their 1st project with us are eligible for this 50% reduced search/flat-fee patent application pricing. Also, this flat-fee Patent Search offer is ONLY for inventions that are of relatively simple or moderate complexity and NOT in a Biotechnology subject area.  Please Request a Quote otherwise.

This offer proceeds as follows: you pay only $249 the patent search to get the above $2,000 search package, and should your invention be deemed patentable we will credit the patent search/Assessment balance fee towards the promotional flat-fee, patent application price.

In the very possible situation where the patent search report discovers that the same, or too similar, invention already exists (typically 25-40% of the time), or if the Legal Patentability Assessment /invention evaluation concludes that your invention is not otherwise feasible then no patent application would result and you only paid the $249 (instead of the normal $2,000) to discover this early on, before investing much time and money.

The patent research work is conducted by one of our highly skilled researcher professional having at least a Bachelors of Science in Electrical/Computer, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, depending on the technical area of the invention. Our search team leader and staff are former US Patent Office (USPTO) Patent Examiners who were trained by the USPTO as experts on their exclusive patent search methods to efficiently discover prior-art that they use to reject patents.  We believe that this, combined with being able to search with the EAST system at the USPTO's DC building, provides us a competitive edge that is a significant distinguishing factor enabling our patent research results to 'weed out' the bad, unpatentable, cases upfront. Most of the time the USPTO does not find any better prior-art than what we already discover first.

We conduct our patent research through our Washington DC office using a wide variety of patent databases including the USPTO's advanced "EAST" system, which is the same search system used by USPTO Patent Examiners. Our US patent searches will include full text US Patent Publications and granted US Patents going all the way back to the very first set of patents.

In addition to keyword, proximity, and concept search and many other advanced relational techniques, the US patent search will search all related classes and subclasses. The patent database collections search covers FULL-TEXT SEARCH of all patent documents available. Unfortunately, many patent search firms in the industry only do full-text search on patents from 1975 to present. Without full-text searching of all patents many patents are missed, esp. when the idea does not fall nicely within a patent class(es).

As a high volume, low overhead Silicon Valley patent firm, we can afford to offer "the little guy/gal" such good deal here due to the economies of scale and lower net overhead this enables.

Moreover, with Bay Area IP you are guaranteed that your invention always stays in the safety and competence of the USA. Unfortunately, many in the patent industry employ non-technical/non-legal patent researchers, or worse yet, many outsource your invention and patent research work overseas (e.g., to India, or Asia) without you ever knowing it, which risks your idea being stolen without any legal recourse by foreigners who are completely outside of our legal system.

Our normal turn-time to deliver your Patent Search Report (including copies of all pertinent patent documents found) is most often 7 days. Asks us for our current turn-time, or mention if you need a rush job, and often we can accommodate your needs without a rush fee (e.g., a 4-7 day turn).
