Fee Payment Options & Instructions

Fee Payment Instructions:

Regarding fee payment, most clients, preferring a speedy getting started process, typically either deposit to our bank account directly, or use their PayPal account if they have one.  Some clients mail us a check or money order payable to Bay Area IP, LLC.  We also accept Wire Transfers to our bank, but there is a $15 charge to cover our bank's fee.  Read below for more details on the various options.

NOTE: Mailing in a Check payment usually delays starting your case by about 2 weeks (1 week mailing, 2 days intake/processing, 5 day hold, etc.), so it is strongly encouraged to pay via the below instant methods when possible.  Note also that eChecks have a 4 day hold time, money order & certified/bank checks a 2 day hold, bank wires are honored when posted.

If you bank with Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, or Wachovia, you may wish to avoid the significant mailing/check clearing delays or credit card transaction costs by making a free, instant bank transfer from your account directly to ours.  Or, just go to their nearest branch in your area and directly deposit cash/check/money order with a teller and we’ll get your case going for docketing the next day. Please ask for our bank account number.  We also accept Wire Transfers to our bank- note there is a $15 charge to cover our bank's fee.  You could also pay online by credit card or eCheck (surcharges may apply, see below). 

If you bank with Chase or your bank is part of the Zelle network, and know about Quick Pay/ Zelle, our Chase Quick Pay (and Zelle) email address is: bank@bayareaip.com.  Just log into your Chase account and do "Quick Pay".  It is usually pretty intuitive, yet your bank can always you help out with that.

Zelle Finanical Network

If your bank is part of the Zelle network (with over 400 member banks) then you can pay us directly via our Zelle email address is: bank@bayareaip.com.  It is pretty much the same as PayPal, but just directly between banks.  Just log into your bank account and look for transferring money to another person via Zelle.  It is usually pretty intuitive, yet your bank can always you help out with the details that.

PayPal

FREE INSTANT TRANSFER (select “Personal/Friends&Family” & do not us credit card, otherwise they charge you a 3% fee): Another way to instantly transfer funds from anywhere in the world for free, is to create a PayPal account linked to your bank account, which just takes minutes to request, and just a day or so to get linked.  Once set up, or if you already have one, then you can use the "send money" PayPal tool to transfer funds directly from your bank account, and, to do it that way for Free by avoiding the 3% payment handling fee, just click the "Personal" or "Friends&Family" option tab and when you get to the "Review your payment and send" screen and if the fee is not $0, go down to the "Payment Method" section, and click on "Change" and select either "PayPal balance" if you have enough there, or "eCheck" and in the adjacent pull down menu select the your bank account that you want to be the source of funds.  If you ever want to add funds to your PayPal account so you can pay instantly from your balance, just go to the "My Account" tab, and click on the "Add money" menu item and do the "Bank transfer" option.  Once you are ready to send in your payment, in the notes section, please be sure to put your full name, what work you are engaging, and the case number in the subject line above.   If you need help on this just give us a call. 

 PayPal Financing Option

If your budget is a bit tight, yet you want the higher quality level protection options, you may want to try to take advantage of a PayPal 0% financing program that we have elected to participate in, which will give you zero interest for 6 months, if they approve you.  They approve most of our clients, and they give fast decisions (most often instantly, or within hours or by the next day), and they pay out instantly to start your casework usually within a day.  If you pay it off within the 6 month grace period it is like free financing money; otherwise, after 6 months it acts pretty much like how credit cards do it.  If that is something you might be interest in then to get details and apply, click on the PayPal "Bill me later" banner located on our checkout page here:

PayPal Credit Card payment checkout Links are below (NOTE: USE ONLY FOR CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS- PAYPAL CHARGES CC 3% FEE; otherwise, for FREE transfers, use "send money, friend/family" per above)- Note that when over $1500, PayPal may not honor the payment unless you are a PayPal verified account:

and add item # "HAP1" to your cart, $100. Then in the PayPal shopping cart window increase the item quantity to the nearest $100 amount to the retainer for the service you will procure. Then continue shopping and add item # "HAP2" to your cart, $25. Then in the PayPal shopping cart window increase this item's quantity to equal the remaining amount to cover the retainer.

For example, if paying $570, then add 5 x HPE1 + 2 x HPE2 + 1 x HPA2, i.e., 5*100 + 2 * 20 + 1*30 = $570.

For example, if you were paying $725, you would set the quantity of item # "HAP1" to 7 (i.e., 7*100 = $700), and the quantity of item # "HAP2" to 1 (i.e., 1*25= $25) to result in a $725 (i.e., 700+25 = $725) payment. The 3% convenience fee will be added at checkout time as shipping (that is the only way we could do it).

If you pay by mail allow 5 days after we receive your mail for payment to clear.  Also, please let us know when to expect your mail so that we can make sure you payment is timely processed for earliest filing.

NOTICE: If your case has any kind of filing deadline (e.g., expiring PPA, a bar date, etc.), unless otherwise agreed upon in writing, we must receive all your signed/dated filing papers, your final draft, and honored final payment of all outstanding fees at least 2 weeks prior to any deadline or we may have file you case in our name (at our current rate), charge you a $300 rush fee (if less than 1 week remains to file, the rush fee is $400 plus $100 per day beyond the 1 week time), and file without your USPTO payment and/or signed filing paperwork, which the USPTO will charge you a missing parts fee and we will charge a $100 fee for separately filing it.  To avoid these charges, please return all required filing documents and payments in proper form before then.  If they are not in proper form by the above timeline, we will consider them as not submitted and will proceed according to the terms set forth above. In any case if we do not have at least four business days to file your case before any deadline, filing your case on time will be on a "best efforts" basis, and may not be achieved.
